The DJ Shannon Show With Stacey "Hotwaxx" Hale 10/29/26

Friends! Last week I had the honor of welcoming a house music icon to The DJ Shannon Show, the legendary Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale stepped into the booth to chat with me about her life, legacy and how she’s still moving dancefloors with the love of house today.

Known as the Godmother of House Music, Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale is a Detroit pioneer who has spent decades shaping the sound and culture of house music. As Detroit’s first female house music DJ and the first woman to bring house music to Detroit radio, she is celebrated for her signature blend of house, techno, funk, hip-hop, and Motown soul. From legendary venues like Studio 54, The Warehouse, and the Apollo Theater to international stages across Europe, Mexico, and beyond, Hotwaxx Hale continues to inspire audiences worldwide. With residencies in Detroit and Berlin, multiple radio shows, and a passion for music education, her influence extends far beyond the dance floor.

In this episode, I took over the first hour with a little homage to house music history featuring classics like "On & On” by Jesse Saunders, which is widely considered the first house track to come out, along with a gem from the Godfather of House Music — Frankie Knuckles’ “Only The Strong Survive.”

In the second hour, I spoke to Stacey about her career, what it’s like connecting with fans of all ages today, how she still has to kick doors down despite her legacy, and so much more, before she blew us away with a stellar mix. Watch the full show above and grab the tracklist here.
